I am interested in buy a 2nd generation Rx7.

If you guys had to do it over again, what year/model would be the best?

Right now I am inclining to a 89-90 GTU or GXL

Any thoughts?

The GTU doesn't come with either power windows or locks, which may bother some people. The GXL is the "luxury" model. So it has a few more things, such as a better stereo and the adjustable suspension.

If you treat these cars well, they last, you beat on it, it will give you problems ( like anything else). The more electical gadgets the car came with, the more that will go wrong, but as long as the car gets you to where your going, switches and what not going bad is normal for any car when its 10+ years old.

whats your intent? a nice ride? or a street racer? GTUs, but you'll never find it, so go get an 88GTU the 2nd best N/A model to go fast. But if u want a nice ride, get an 89+ gxl. If i could do it over i would be in the same place Since you can't find GTUs and TurboII's u never know how the previous owner treated it and i don't have $$$ to be paying to keep it running all the time.

I feel lucky to have a TII. How rare are they really? Does anybody have the production breakdowns by model (GTU, GXL, TII, etc.) for second gen model years?
