Folks,

This is my first time here, and I'm hoping that you'll be able to help me. I have a '90 automatic GXL which has had problems shifting for a while. It'll run through first gear fine, however has problems shifting into and out of second gear. I can't even manually shift it into second gear and have the car acknowledge the gear change.

I have been able to drive the car "normally" with the HOLD function on, basically engaging it low in first gear and leaving it engaged until around 40 mph, after which the car will drive as it should, but if the car needs to downshift I have to re-engage the hold.

Has anybody has this problem? Any info that you can give would be much appreciated. For those that would recommend a 5spd. conversion, it's not my car and moms shot the idea down already. Much appreciated.

you may want to look in the shop manual the trany might be able to give you a code, or to put it another way hopefully its a part you can change without rebuilding the thing.

www.iluvmyrx7.com has the shop manual online
