i am new to rx7's but always wanted to have one so i picked up a 89 rx7 gxl 5 speed for cheap that needed some tlc that the owner stated didn't run. I am able to start it but it only will start if i have the gas pedal held down about half way roughly, it will start up but if it will not idle or run below 3500rpm or less (guestimate) if i hold the gas pedal it will run seemingly fine at high rpms. I know there are two sets of injectors, my thinking is maybe the primary injectors aren't firing and maybe at the higher rpms the secondary injectors are and thats why it is only running at high rpms? am i correct in this thinking. can someone tell me how the injectors, primary and secondary's work? and what might be the problem i am experiencing and what to test/fix, thanx

check the compression firstly, if it checks out look for vaccuum leaks. Althoguh it would be a rather large one to make it run like that so you would probably be able to hear it anyway.

yeah, if compression is good its got a vacuum leak. its possible the primary injectors dont work, but it highly unlikely
