here the deal: i just picked up a total cream puff 1 owner(old man) 86 GXL for a paltry $500. it has been sitting in his garage for 6 years untouched. this car is super clean and except for the stereo and a hellfire alarm system it is complete unmolested.

i put in fresh gas with a touch of 2-cycle oil for good measure. took out the plugs and put some marvel mystery oil in the holes. i turned it over and i got a good thump thump sound, i then put in new plugs. but it wont start. it has spark and i tested the fuel pressure at the feed line and it is 60 psi. however the fuel pump runs as long as the key is turned on. what would cause this? what controls the fuel pump? is this even a problem? how can i tell if the primary injectors are firing?(cant get to the plugs to test them for power) could it be a ground problem? ECU? or the alarm system mafunctioning? any ideas would be welcome

Ask the guy why the car sat in the garage for 6 years.

got it running today. turns out the mass air meter was stuck shut from sitting for so long. that is also why the fuel pump wouldnt shut off. i put another meter on it and it started poping and the fuel pump started working normally. i then had to dump quite a bit of 2-cycle oil in the intake to get the compression up. and it finally started

you are right. i sprayed oil into the MAF meter and it freed up and it works ok now. the car runs great. too bad both front 4 piston calipers are seized. oh well small price to pay seeing i got the car so cheap. the car has just about every option they had in '86 even has the electronic adjustable suspension and a limited slip diff. hopefully after i fix the brakes i can get halfway decent money for it. i am hopeing to sell it and my 88 'vert and find a nice low mileage Turbo II
