$416 Ground Wire

Let me start this by saying I am not a rotary rocket scientist but i'm capable of using a schematic and a multitester. I have done many engine swaps on my rx's. I have four RX7's at this time including a '79 that does Ita road racing duty on summer weekends. I put a low milege factory rebuild into an '88 GXL that I bought broken at 102,000. After the install that went normal I could not get this car to start and run but only once in awhile. After spending boocoo hours on it trying every thing I could think of to get it to run, I left it sit for most of last fall and winter because I had a '87 turbo2 and a '91 nonturbo to work on and drive as well. I went back to it about 2 months ago and went over most everthing and then some again. I have swapped out the crank angle sensor, the airflow meter, the coils, the main relay, the computer, the ignition switch and ect ect. I have tested the wiring back to the computer and tested voltages and looked for codes with a LED code reader all to no avail. About a month ago I had it running long enough to set the timing and run it up to five grand or more. After shutting it off to eat dinner it didn't start again ever. I finally sent it to the dealer who claimed he had an old school mechanic who knew how to fix these "vintage" cars and that they had all the diagnostic equipment. It turns out they did not even have a factory manual for it . I had to give them mine to look at. The mechanic was honest, he told me he didn't have any training or experience on these cars. After a week and a half he got a tip from some other mechanic. The ground wire that goes under a bolt that holds down the vacuum manifold that sits under the the intake manifold was loose. This is the main ground for the EGI computer. It cost me $416 for labor and an oil change and they put in 10-30 not 20-50!

i didn't even know there was a ground wire there... i know when i did my clutch job i forgot to put the ground wire that goes from the tranny to teh connector close to the windsheild wiper motor.
The car would start and then funky electrical things would happen like the pushing the brakes would make the lights go on, and after 20 mins of driving the car would stall out.
I was like, wtf did i do for 3 days until i realized i had 2 wires dangling off. the oil pressure sensor and the tranny ground.
who would've know it was that crucial

hey at least it runs like a scalded cat now. I put in a lightend flywheel and a street / strip clutch and pressure plate . It also has Racing Beats cat replacement pipe with the prescilencer and I added 16" turbo 2 wheels and an intake as well. I sure did learn a lot about wiring and the bigggest reason I posted this message is that I hope nobody has the same problems I had.
