well he's got all the prices itemised at the bottom, price some stuff out, he's a little high, and some of the stuff you might have already, but he's not out of the ballpark.

TED's artical is top notch. Prices go up and down. There is alot to get into on a 20b. You will spend 10 grand I promis and still have a used motor that needs rebuilt and thats another 10grand.

Unless of course you have any connections with parts suppliers, and you have any fabrication skills and tools, in which case, it won't cost 10 grand.

But as BANZAI said, make your project estimate and double it, that's what it should cost after all the minor details. So don't estimate 20,000 for this swap. 10,000 is for a well done swap, with all new parts at no discount prices virtually out of consumer catalogues. If you have any resources it shouldn't be 10,000, but damn near.

I have found it to be near imposible without using trashed used parts and used motor to get the car runing for under 10k. "turbo"

For a proper runing setup exspect more around 20 to 30k. "turbo"

Are you quoting this from experience? It certainly doesn't sound like it.

$10K buys you a used motor, then you have to rebuild, port, new seals, replace any bad rotors/rotor housings, dowel pin it, etc. If you can do all this yourself, you still have to buy parts and are you willing to use used parts (remember, this motor was made 10-15 years ago) for your brand new high HP motor?

Big radiator, FMIC, oil cooling, plus plumbing - another $2K

Turbo/WG/custom exhaust manifold & piping - $4K

Clutch and custom exhaust - $2K

EMS/ Installation and tuning - $3K min.

FC motor mounts - $300

I don't know where you are coming up with 10K except as a ghetto install, using a used motor and not doing any other modifications except the bare minimum. To do an engine transplant with high HP in mind, there is a ton of upgrades that must be done in conjunction with the swap itself.

The other thing people fail to consider is time. Do you want it done in a couple months or a couple years? The faster you want it done, the more costly. The other thing is research. You going to spend all the time doing research or have an installer do it for you? Potential for more money there as well.

Lastly, don't underestimate vendors wasting your time, sending you wrong parts, parts that won't fit, or taking 6 months to send you parts.

$20K is a good estimate to start with. If you come in under budget, bonus. Most likely it will take longer than you think and cost more as well.

my 20b swap with a stock jdm unrebuilt engine, was around 8k. my friend is doing one right now, he got a better deal on the engine and he's looking at spending about 6k.

also who is rebuilding a 20b for 10k? how is a 3 rotor twice as much to rebuild than a 2 rotor. its 1.5....

you can buy a NEW short block from mazda japan for 12k.

It appears some people just don't have resources. Or have never made contact with anyone who has resources.

You say "10K? That's gotta be ghetto". I hear "I don't know where to look for reasonable prices".

For example, You could go to mazda for oil cooler lines for your car, they want 320 dollars. Or, goto a hydraulics shop and have them make the same hoses in metric, only rated for 3000 psi instead of 120, and they ask not even a quarter of what mazda wants. Doesn't seem that ghetto to me. The key is using your head and knowing where to look. Motor mounts? Make some. 20 bucks in raw steel, TOPS. Big radiator, go speak with drag shops, retro fit a huge aluminum core that's suppost to be a chevy for a third of the price as the direct fit junk that's overpriced when you type in "RX7" at google.com. The inlet in the wrong spot? Do something about it. Even if you have to spend the 40 bucks for a radiator shop to move it. You're still way ahead. Some people can't wrap their head around getting out of their chair and going shopping. Rad shop, hydraulic shop, injection shop. Goto a truck shop for IC piping and connectors. The stuff is dirt cheap, and top notch too. The difference between "ractive" IC connectors and international connectors is international's have to handle 20-30lbs of boost for over 200,000 miles. You can't tell me because it wasn't marketed to you directly means that it either won't work, or isn't good enough. Aren't sure if they have your size? Try it out. Go shopping. Surely they have something for you if they make engines between 5 litres and 15 litres.

What would make it ghetto is how you retrofit your just-as-good-if-not-better parts to your chassis.

If you "gotta have it now" and only buy the first thing in front of your face, then sure. Likely well over 10 grand.

I appologize though and digress, I've been fancying an N/A 20B project. I would go back and say at least 10k to iceblue if turbo then, but that's for brand new stuff, no rebuilt snails. But still. For that matter, don't shop online for a turbo. Go OUT shopping. You will save money.

Me. My bottom level basic rebuild for a 13b start at just under 4k. I can also name many other shops in this same price range. It is not a matter of resources it is a matter of how good you do things.

My 20b into my car is 30k into the motor and support alone and well yea my own labor is free lol.
