i am curently in the prosess of putting a 20b in my miata and i plan to put a tremec t56 6 speed behind the engine and whan i got my half cut i keeped the bell housing off the auto and o an thinking of using it for the tremic. it looks very strong but was wondering if anyone had used one or broken one or if it should be good hoping for 550 hp out of the 20b

 

I doubt you will get a good answer on this since no one uses the auto tranny, but i would assume it will be fine. I am making more than that on the TII 5 speed bellhousing.

 

the bell housing wont be your weak point in the setup!

If you really want a 6 spd, use the rx8 tranny. it already bolts to the rotory, you will need to fabricate the mounts...

 

the rx8 tranny is weak as ****, I wouldnt use it. If youre not set on the 6th gear, a TII tranny would be fine for that power level, especially in a miata. Ive been running mine at 575 rwhp for months now, havent broken it yet.

 

I agree the t2 tranny is the way to go. I have one on my 20b. But the weak point on a 20b miata won't be the tranny, it will be the tires! The car is going to be too light and with all the weight in the front, it will consistanly break where the rubber meets the road! Too much fun!

 

any perticular reason you guys didnt go with a s6 box?

 

because my car is a s4. also from what I have heard, s4 was the strongest drivetrain...

 

Ease of install (most people are dropping these into FC's and the tranny bolts and mounts right up, I am sure the people running the FD's keep the S6 tranny's). And, have you ever driven the FD? The S6 tranny shifts like poo poo. slow and clunky!



It is one of the worst things I hate about my FD (In fact my favorite tranny is in my GSLSE).

 

nar never driven an s6 my s4 was quiet sloppy but thats quiet common given the age, nar i was just wondering thats all as my 20b is going into a early celica so it was never intened to have this sort of power plant in it and i figured a newer box would have been the better choice plus theres no remote shiter in the fd

 

Hi. From what I am reading the Tremec will be the go. You will need a clutch, manual bell housing, adaptor, shifter extention, longer tail shaft.



I am tracking down the adptor at the moment.
