going to build my cage on my 80 real soon.

looking for some pics so i can figure how many feet of tubing to buy. i did a real quick measure and got 9 feet for the roll bar, 7 feet for each bar going from roll bar to rear trunk area, and around 4 feet for the harness bar. plus the 3-4 more feet to stablize the roll bar to the floor board.

oh and i did measure cause i forgot, but im guessing 4 more feet each for the side/door bars.

thats a total of around 38 feet. seems like a lot...

how much tubing did your cage take? dont wanna have a bunch of extra metal around, i have no space as it is...

What kind of cage? Expect an 8 point cage even with X door bars (vs. NASCAR bars) to use at least 60. The Corolla I'm almost done with has used up 60 so far and it still needs door bars, harness bars and gusseting.

FWIW I added some extra tubes at the top of the cage in case the owner decides to go rallying and needs FIA regs followed, but so far that doesn't add more than 5-6' to the total usage.

Mustangs, 4-door cars and wasteful design usually use 80-100 feet of tubing.

the first one is of the drivers side view of the cage and the second is from the rear. this is from the NHRA website.

Cage is a hybrid SCCA/FIA spec (in case the guy changes his mind for the 50th time and decides to rally it). Most likely it'll just be a garage queen, maybe hit the street or get wrecked into a guardrail "canyon racing" or whatever the hell that is.

Anyway, tubing is overbuilt for SCCA but FIA requires 1.75". It's .095" wall, at least.

Still needs harness bars, some more gusseting in the rear, and door bars. But its almost done!

And part of the plating on the rear:

nice work. but i will porbly have less than half that.

i most likely will be running just the roll bar, harness bar, and the rear bars. the pics i posted from NHRA were legal up to 8.50's. it gets less the slower you are. im going to build it legal for mid 10's. i can always add more. but the car will be all motor so, unless i plan on breaking world records...it will be enough.
