I read maspeed's "removing the rats nest" and their "cold-air intake" articles and I'm itching to mod the hell out of my car now

Question is, what benifits (performance wise) will I gain from removing the rats nest and doing a cold-air-intake? I'm doing it anyway, but was just wondering... anybody have tips before I dive in? i really didnt like the look of the insulation they used so I'm gonna poke around and see what other alternatives I have in insualtion material.

As for the cold air intake not much of a Hp increase. usually done for reliability.

That's the main hunk of it that comes out. I just read on another forum that "Removing the rats nest simplifies your engine bay and may solve problems associated with vacuum leaks--no power gain from removing it." That's alright, but I was really hoping that I'd gain something... *shrug*

removing the nest should give you between 15&30 hp depending on what components your running. and cooler air increases hp by allowing more fuel through compression. IE, hot air takes up more room than cold air. the colder the air the more room in the housing (or cylinder) for fuel.

CAN I GET AN AMEN??!!

THats good enough reason to ditch it. It helps heaps when you can see what your doing rather than wading through black tubes.

The CAI mod is good for power gains. Can you post the new whereabouts of the how-to's, I only have the old link that don't worky no more.
