Well I was hunting around my oil lines yesterday and noticed that my oil cooler was loose. It was only bolted on the passenger side of the radiator and was just sitting on the skid plate thingy on the drivers side. I propped it up and put in a couple of bolts to hold it in place. Yesterday I drove the mazda up to Bellingham and back (50miles each way) averaging around 75 mph. I hadn't done this for a while but before the engine would be burning oil like crazy and smoking pretty bad when I got there. Yesterday I was surprised as there was no smoke coming out when I got there! I thought maybe I was hallucinating and checked it when I got home, and again no smoke! Today I drove it kind of hard and again no smoke. Oil pressure is good and it is no longer dripping off of the bottom oil line like it was before I propped up the cooler. I am happy yet skeptical, but I will take it.

Good for you, man...Did you figure out why it wasn't connected all the way?

SWEEET, although it seems strange that would be the culprit.

The previous owner of the car had a new radiator put in so I think the installer either forgot to bolt it up, or just decided not to.
