Oil, Gas, and everything nice
#1
Hello,
I have a few new questions...firstly...I would like to know when other people shift their cars...My baby is a 84 GSL...kinda a odd one I know...but I love her dearly
I also would like to know what kind of oil would be best for my car...also would adding the mystery oil gas additive to my fuel tank help me with mileage?
or would it just kill my engine?
I usually tend to keep away from adding anything to my fuel...incase it doesn't burn all the way...bad bad bad
I've been gettin a foam out of my overflow tank next to the radiator...when I shut my car off...is this bad? Is there anything I can do to stop it or even slow it down perhaps...I usually get radiator fluid all over the inside of my hood and internals...nasty stuff
One final question...what brand of gas do you guys get the best mileage with?...I'm currently using texaco 87 octane gas...can't get anything lower here...I'm gettin about 18-20 mpg...depends on my driving too
thanks...later
Adam

I don't know whats up with your antifreeze problem? You should probably flush it out and put new 50/50 antifreeze and see if its still doing what you say its doing.
As for shift points on a bone stock 12a, keep in mind your torque peak is 4000rpm and HP peak is 6000rpm. So obviously you don't need to go past 7000rpm in first gear since the power drops off quickly after 6. If you had a aftermarket carb such as a weber, mikuni, or holley system COMBINED with a set of headers and high flow fuel pump your power peak would be closer to ~7100rpm or so.
Do not use sinthetic oil. Enough said there. Don't use additives, they are made for sap's. Unless your a turbo rotary, which your not, never use anything greater then 87octane. Unless you want to waste your money I suppose?

Ohps, I did not completely read your message... If antifreeze is getting all over, its likely you have water pump leak of sorts. Even if you don't see anything wet, this tends to dry quickly with the hot engine. Or you may have a radiator problem.. But also may be a hose that is loose or too old and leaking too. Check for bulges in the different hoses. But I am betting its the water pump or its gasket because if it is spraying all over, that a tell-tail sign. They seem to be worn out around 100,000miles or so and leak out of the Weep-hole.
When your coolent is low it will cavaite and cause foam too.. This shortens the time to break down the water pump too.

Depending on your mileage(on the car),you might want to consider doing the ATF "trick".I have 120K,and I gave it a shot after doing a carb re-build and some other stuff. It seemed to really clean out some of the crud build-up inside the motor, helps loosen sticking apex and corner seals ALOT!(check your oil filler tube for rust...if you see any, give this a try, you'll love it)Better start it at night though,or the neighbors may call the fire dept.
