I ****** swear to god if it 's not one thing its another. I meat up with this kid, he bought a seconed-gen, he's kinda a noob. I go to this mother ******* house and check out his car it's ok needs a little t.l.c but what 7 dosen't . As I'm levin the dude say's "hey man hit it ", I reply ok. Rev that **** to about 7k and dump the clutch. Them tires are roastin, all of a sudden pop rattel nock nock nock nock. First thing that comes to mind is ah **** drive shaft . So I check it out nope not that. Put that dumb bitch in gear and it just makes this grinding noise. Pretty sure the ring and pinoin. What the **** do I do to deserve this nada. Oh whell luckly I have the thied member or gears out of an gsl-se rear end. Do yall know If I can dropp the se gears into a gsl housing.......... Pardon all the dirty words I'm pised off and been at the bar for about three hours of power drinkin he he he he

First off, NEVER rev that damn high then dump the clutch! What were you thinking? 5k maybe, but 7k?! no.
As for the GSL housing sporting an SE 3rd member, it depends on the year. I know that an 84 will take it. I have a 84 GSL 3rd member in my 85 SE. 5k dump at the strip. Stupid to say the least, but **** happens we live and we learn. Don't expect to tell a big difference though...you wont, and the SE isn't so much stonger than the GSL so son't think it will take it either.

If you have an 84-85 the SE diff will bolt up and the axles will silde in perfect. the 83 down models have smaller axles. In wich case you would need to swap out the whole diff assembly to make it fit.

Probably not the ring and pinion, my guess it would be your side and spider gears inside the diff, ring and pinion is usually pretty strong. I take it from your User Name that you have a non-lsd rear so...

Saturday night my self and a friend of mine removed the rear diff. getting it out was pretty easy thanks to some air tools. The rear was an lsd 84-45 version and word on the street was that it was a stought piece. I had only had it in for 7 months or less. My guess was correct the ring rear was tore the **** up. In one secthion ther was a four inch section where all the teeth were not there, he he he he. Needless to say no more 7k dropps my motor makes enoufgh power to get thoes tires turning at a much lower r.p.m. I was also concerned about the axel splines but they were good. The se gears went in no problem. Every thing works fine.

Yah what he said, or at least not 7k on good tires, I'll do it if my tires are on their way out. What is a good option for a strong differential for a 84-85 rear?
