yesterday me and ma gurl were rollin in ma 85'. I took a corner and tried to put it into second but then noticed ma clutch was on the floor. So i pulled over and checked the clutch fluid lvl and noticed it was right on min. so i added fluid til it got to max and got back inside and pumped the clutch for a minute. I got hardly any pressure and since then the clutch will engage itself when i put it into gear. It takes bout 10 seconds and the car will start movin. The clutch will stick down and gets very little pressure. So now im wearin out the syncros by switch gears without the clutch and checkin ma fluid every 10 miles(goes down bout half way). I believe its the slave cyl. I cant see any leaks on the master. Any help would be appreciated.

you check the slave? leaks shoudl be easy to see.

Replace the salve cylinder and the hose that connects to the master cylinder. Even if there is a blow-by problem from worn seals in the slave a leak should be obvious.

I still have a spare 12a clutch master cylinder. But because of my swap (see ridiculously long post entitled "Project Update") and therefore having a new tranny, I don't think I'll have the same issue.



Look at the bellhousing, you should see some fluid right by the cylinder...it tends to leak right out onto the bellhousing.

Pop the hood and look at the back of the engine bay on the driver side, you will see the hose coming off of your clutch master cylinder. Follow it down to the slave cylinder, there are two bolts holding it on. Squeeze the rubber around the piston that pushes the clutch in/out and if ya see fluid pour out then it is the slave, if it were any other leak you would be able to see the clutch fluid right away. MY recommendation is to replace the slave AND the master at the same time because if one goes the other is usually right behind it, if the hose doesnt look bad leave it but you can get stainless replacements on Ebay cheap so its up to you. Good luck to ya and its not real hard to replace just a pain to get to the bolts but so is life. Bleed it real good after you are done too so ya dont have a mushy clutch pedal full of air.

Thx, i found the leak, it's actually poolin up back by the rear rotor housing (where it says Mazda 12a) and dripping down to the rear spark plugs. It's at the shop right now, i talked to mike (j9fd3s) and he said it will prolly be bout an hour of labor. Good thing the slave cyl is less than $40. Another good thing is that i actually drove it up to the shop instead of having it towed yesterday. Thx for all the help, i'll keep u guys updated on price and labor.

OK, got it fixed, the slave cyl was under 50, labor from the shop was right over 50, total was $116. Thx guyz, thx mazda
