I purchased my first rx7 its a 1980 with a swapped 13b with weber 48 carbs with no choke, racing beat header and a racing beat intake and full staight 2.5 inch exhaust. My problem is that it misfires when cold and when warmed up and dies when i jump on the throttle and dont know why. The car has been timed and tuned up but still acts up. If i ease into the throttle then it goes fine but it bothers me and i want to fix it. The whole car has been stripped and was once a track car, but now sits in my driveway. Most parts were swapped from the original 12a motor into the 13b including the disrtibutor which ive been told just needs a 13b cap and rotor but want advice from people who know more about rotary engines then my family of Ford mechanics.

Welcome to nopistons! I'm moving this to the 1st gen section, you should get more help there. Good luck!

Sounds like a carb issue. Might be getting too much gas.

when the engine is cold and the local weather is all but warm, that coughing and spitting is fairly normal with a cold-blooded Weber (no choke).

first question is how long ago was this tuneup performed and did it included a fuel filter?

my only offering right now for it having the same behavior after the engine warms up is that it needs to be either cleaned, re-jetted or both - unless your fuel pressure is way off. dying out under full throttle is probably fuel starvation. however, it could be too rich as well. my brother's Holley has that problem. what kind of pump are you running? where is the pressure set?

make a note of who told you to get a 13B cap and rotor, then stay the hell away from them in the future.

Thumbs up

^^^^ Check the float level of your carb. Can you rev up the engine if you step on the pedal slowly?
