my 84 GSL-SE is having some issues idling since I installed new injector seals. To do this I removed the upper Intake, and while I was in there, replaced lots of bad vacuum hose. Now it will start, but it jumps from 500 rpm to 1500, then comes back down and does it again. I would really like to make this stop. Also the tps was tapped closed by the previous owner... I also can't adjust it so that I get voltage only on one test lead, I either have it at both, or neither. Does this mean-sound like a bad tps? as they are $200+ I don't want to buy one only to find that it didn't fix my problem.

thanks for the help in advance,

Christopher King

if the TPS doesnt adjust, it'll do the 500-1500 rev thing...

but since you just changed all the vacuum lines, maybe its worth looking at em, maybe theres a crossed one?

I have been looking at the diagrams from the shop manual and the training manual and everything looks good... but I could be wrong... would anything but the biggest vacuum leak - mess up cause that big of an idling issue? but a bad tps will do this correct?

thanks for the help

it'll also do it, if the secondary throttle plates are open

i open the hood, and push em closed, if the idle gets better, then they were open. the secondary plates are the upper ones, and if you open and close the throttle manually under the hood, you'll see what i'm talking about.

the fix varies, if you're lucky you can clean it out (they carbon up) if you're unlucky the throttle body bores are worn out
