Hey Guys,

Sorry, Newbie here. I am planning on purchasing my first 1st gen but I am confused, do they a rear seat?

I am been looking all over the net and I can't find a solid answer.

Here's a pic I found where there was a rear seat: http://www.rx7-gallery.co.uk/binrx7/savann...5/rx7mk1cut.jpg

But I have seen other pics where the rx7 doesn't have a rear seat. Was it an option?

Guys please educate me!

First Generation RX7's did not come with a rear seat. An aftermarket rear seat kit was made during the early/mid 1980's by Pacific Avitar (and possibly others) to allow the owner to convert the 7 to a 2+2 configuration.

The 2+2 option for Rx7s has been around from the start. However the 2+2 option was only offered in Japan do to Japan's less strict crash standards. Not to say that zero 2+2 first generation models actually ever made it to the US, they would just be extremely rare and hard to find. So chances are, at the time and over the years you would have to go with an aftermarket rear seat kit.

Some 79'-85' Rx7s already have predrilled bolt applications for the mounting brackets for a rear seat. That's also rare and finding a rear seat should be tough, though I have seen a couple rear seats for sale lately. A rear seat from a 2+2 FC Rx7 will fit in a first generation model if you weren't able to find a one out of first generation model Rx7.

Wow.. good info...

Nice to know that the FC seat will fit. Will it need any special modifications? I am guessing I'll need to drill, right?

Thanks guys.
