ok, i have a 71' 510 with a 85' 13b in it. i bought it about 2 years ago and have barely driven it due to the fact that it instantly fouls plugs.

btw, it has a new holly fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator set to the specified 6 lbs of fuel pressure.

when i bought the car the guy told me "i don't know what the deal is with the carb, you might want to buy a 600 cfm from racing beat".

the current carb is a sidedraft del'orto.

so, i've called racing beat about 4 times trying to buy a 600 cfm and intake from them but they say "sorry, our last batch of carbs we got from holly were defective, we should have a new batch in soon, call us back in a few weeks"

so i waited a few weeks and called them, they said "sorry we don't have them yet".

so i waited a few weeks and called them, and they said "we got them in, but we havn't had time to modify them....call back in a few weeks".

so i waited a few weeks and called them, and they said "well, we havn't had time to mess with them because we are currently developing parts for the rx-8 and we won't be getting around to the 600 cfm's anytime soon......call us back in a few months".

so, i've basically givin up on them.

i've been looking on ebay for a 600cfm and intake for the 6 port but either they want too much money or the carb looks dirty as hell or the intake is for a 12a or a 4 port.

i've started thinking about having the del'orto rebuilt but i'm wondering if it's evern worth it. also i'm wondering if any1 here in indianapolis will even rebuild a carb like this.

so, i was talking to a friend and he suggested looking into going with fuel injection.

were the 85' 13b's fuel injected or carbed?

is it possible to go with fuel injection on the 85' 13b?

so, i started thinking if i can go with fuel injection i might as well go turbo while i'm at it.

is it possible to go with fuel injected turbo on a 85' 13b?

so, should i-

1. have the del'orto rebuilt?

2. wait for racing beat to sell me a 600 cfm?

3. buy a 600 cfm off of ebay?

4. other carb? possibly a weber? (might have hood clearence problems?)

5. fuel injection?

6. fuel injected turbo?

if i were to go fuel injection or fuel injected turbo what parts would i need? like what size injectors and what kinda ecu? stuff like that.

if you would be so kind please list in detail what i need.

thanks.

Change carbs to a Holley, they are much easier to tune and deal with. Dellortos are OK but hard to get them right. Thats probobly your problem. Here is one on Ebay, from Racing Beat at a good price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=33550

Try this link. Did a short google and came up with this one. May not apply to a rotary, but it might help. If the car has sat for 2 years, it will need gone through.

You might want to check the Aussie RX7 site, those guys are very good.

You didn't say if your engine is a 4 or 6 port. If you go Holley you will need a new intake manifold and the the linkage set up.

I have a Mikuni set up for a 6 port I may be willing to part with or trade for.

so, i just got off the phone with racing beat.

something is not right with this company.

i tried to order a 600 cfm AGAIN, and they say-

"sorry, our last batch of carbs were defective, we had to send them back. we should be getting a new batch in in a few weeks"

i told them that that was the same thing they told me 5 or 6 months ago.

then he started "fast talking" me. talking about-

"we tried lots of different carbs and none of them made power, we've finally found one that does and we will be getting them in in a few weeks....blah blah blah.......call back next month".

then i try to get a word in edgewise to which the guy starts fast talking me again.

so i'm wondering-

they tried lots of what different carbs?

lots of different holly 600 cfm carbs?

lots of different brands of carbs?

how exactly are they defective?

how many different batches of defective carbs have you guys got?

how did they come to find out they had defective carbs?

did they sell a bunch of defective carbs to unsuspecting customers before some1 brought it to racing beats attention that the carb they recently purchased was defective?

should i buy a 600 cfm carb off of ebay? maybe it's a defective carb that the ebay seller bought from racing beat.

what i'm trying to figure out is wtf is going on? they keep going round and round with their story. it's like they can't get their story straight.

my car has been sitting for at least 6 months while i wait for a carb, this is driving me insane. how much longer do i have to wait? another 6 months? a year?

i could buy one off of ebay but how do i know it's not a defective one that they bought from racing beat?

btw, if you owned a business and some1 called you 6-7 times trying to buy your product for 860 $, would you keep telling them to call back in a month or 2, or would you take down their telephone # and say " i'll call you the instant we get your product"?

a friend of mine was here a couple of times when i called and tried to place an order and my friend, who is involved in business, could not believe that they told me to call them back and the fact that they didn't take my telephone #.

what a hassle..................

Just buy a 6 port intake from Racing Beat. Get a 600CFM holley from somewher else and you are done. Thats what I did and all it took was a little tuning to get it right. The secret to making it work is proper jetting and modify the air bleeds.

Just PM me when you have it. I promise I will not make you wait at all!

Im interested in seeing pics of your setup man, I like the way you went with your car, I think I have a video of it idleing somewhere. I'm getting ready to start building my MegaSquirt ecu and depending on whether or not its worth a **** I'm gonna take my car off the road and open the motor up. I'd like to see some porting shots of your motor if ya got them. Thanks
