i've seen posts and instructions on removing the rats nest/emissions stuff. what are the benefits to doing this? More power, better running, or just a neater looking engine compartment?

No more rats!

For me, it was a matter of gaining some simplicity and getting rid of a bunch of stuff which was no longer relevant on my car as it was and still is.

most people do it just to clean up the engine bay. It DOES look a lot better without all that junk on it.
