Hello,

I very recently purchased a 84 (I think GS) RX-7 to replace my old 80 RX-7 that I let go in 2000.

It has started and ran everytime since I looked at it and after I bought it. Yesterday it started, then stalled, but I was on a hill, so I just tried roll starting it, no luck with that. I had driven it for probably 15-20 miles and started it 6-8 times doing some errands ealier in the day.

I don't remember my other RX ever doing something like this, unless it was the battery (which it isn't, because it wouldn't start with a roll or when I tried to jump it later).

It currently turns over, but just will not start. This car had been sitting for a while, but unless I've fouled all the plugs, or sucked in bad gas sitting on the bottom of the good gas I just put in it, I'm at a loss.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

the carbed cars are hard to flood, but its still doable, check that first, and then maybe for spark

I figured the 2-3 attempts at a rolling start would cure that...no?

To push start a flooded rotary, I've always had to start them in 2nd gear at over 25 mph.

Seems like it's getting fuel, can smell it near the rear when trying to start it, so I'm guessing it's the spark it's missing.

Yep been there and still doing that. Just got this 84 RX-7, been driving it since monday. I have changed the fuel filter 3 times now, last night i drained the tank, and had at least a 1/2 gallon of water sloshing around the bottom. I was told it had been sitting for some time, this does cause water to accumilate. So if you have an inline filter check/change it. Try a jug of HEAT to help burn out the water. Good luck.

Update:

when I got this car towed, it seemed like some gas was leaking from the left side. I do not remember my 80 doing that, is this some deal with the 84's spillover configuration or something? Still haven't got a chance to change the plugs or anything, just moved over the weekend.
