83 rx7 runs like crap!
Hi everyone, i've just bought my first rx7! only problem is I can't get it to run right. Im going to try to word this as simple as possible so bear with me haha. When the car is idling if I press the gas petal the car dies, now i can press the petal about 1/2 way and the rpms drop about 500 then start to rev. The car is very laggy and will not go above 4500rpms. i've rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the spark plugs and wires, ive also put new gas in it. compression test came back good, Ive been searching forums for over a week now with no luck on finding any solutions to my problem. Tell me what you guys think, im new to rotarys and im still trying to learn haha, thanks

Hey, im new too lol just bought mine today. But check the choke on the side of the carb opposite the throttle linkage. Make sure the choke cable is hooked up and maje sure you take the choke off after it starts up

On the passenger side of the engine compartment, there is a hose that is I think, about a half inch or maybe a little bigger. It goes from the intake manifold to the carb if memory serves. That hose also, is near the exhaust manifold and over time, gets very hot and cracks. You might check that if you haven`t already. I have had 2 1st Gens over the years and in both cars, that hose was bad. You could have put a dime through the hole in that hose in both. Another friend had the same problem in his RX7 that he bought also.
Have you replaced your vacuum hoses yet?
If you haven`t, you might want to. Old rotaries are notorious for putting out a lot of heat under the hood and over time, everything under the hood goes from soft to baked hard.
How many miles are on the car also?
