Not sure what parts you have on hand by your initial post, but if you're swapping in the whole motor, you just need the front crossmember from a GSL-SE...or slot and move the motor mounts. It should bolt right up to the 12a transmission. The trans and rear will hold, but know that they are weaker and will break down sooner than the GSL-SE gear. If you are just piecing this together from a 13 short block, all the stuff that came on the 13B is necessary: exhaust, oil pan, front cover, front mount oil cooler, ECU and entire intake setup (injectors etc). I have an ECU out of a GSL-SE if you're interested. Also, if you're piecing this together, I'd use the intake/Throttle body from a 2nd gen instead...it's worth a few horses.
Good luck!

From what I've heard, the GSL ring and pinions are stronger than the GSL-SEs. The only real difference in strength I know of has to do with '83-earlier axles vs. '84-85 axles. The later axles are thicker. Realistically a FI 13B doesn't even come close to being able to shred a 12A rearend, so don't worry about it too much.
Yeah it's only a difference of +/-35 horses stock, so it can't be that huge of a difference in strength... I meant to be more clear about it not really mattering, but came off like it did.

Will the gsl-se's wiring harness plug into a 2nd gen's tps, alt., and other electrical components without trouble?

the s4 stuff, yes. s5 pretty much works the same, but the connectors are different
