(crummy) '83 Hi-beam switch
#1
The headlight switch on my '83 will drive w/ low beam lights fine and will flash hi-beam lights but when its pushed foreward the lights go out. sometimes if the planets are in alignment it will go to hi-beams...shortly.
This is the third or fourth 1st gen with the same head light prob.
Any suggestions?
I've looked at mazdatrix and racingbeat for replacement assemblies but no luck?

Pull the steering wheel, spray contact cleaner generously (best to disconnect negative battery cable first!) right where the lever goes into the combo switch. It might take 2 or 3 times, but it'll fix it.
Exact same thing happened on mine.
Good Luck!

I agree.Overtime contacts will get gummed up and dirty.Usually a good cleaner will fix alot of electrical problems. On power windows sometime the connections at the switch itself have too much rust on them to make a good connection after a little cleaning with a little wire brush you'll be amazed by how those little things work.

I was gonna suggest contact cleaner as well.
Try spraying it in the switch before you take anything apart.
If you DO end up disassembling the column and removing/cleaning the switch, go over the brass contacts with a soft pink eraser - gets it nice and clean!
